Freebies

Stonecrop and rose that I put in the ground yesterday. Daylilies, irises, black eyed susans, bee balm, more stonecrop, and more roses remaining to be planted.

Gardeners are a generous bunch, and I try to pay it forward when I run into a batch of freebies like these, and just in general. I packed up a care package that left this afternoon, and I'm setting aside another batch for pickup this weekend. I love that it's possible to divide perennials and  root cuttings for sharing.

Hyacinths

We bought some hyacinths on an after-holiday clearance sale last year. They were scraggly and strung out on excess fertilizer in an attempt to force them into bloom for holiday sales. They're much happier now on a diet of sunlight, rain, and compost. :) The bigger foliage is a few clumps of irises. We have a culvert that runs under our driveway, and this is the two ends of it.

Frosty Crocuses and Irises

I now have a total of 4 crocuses blooming - 2 of each color. The other two photos are a sedum groundcover and a clump of irises. The iris photo posted upside down for some reason. My phone is psychotic.

Yard Work

Tools of the trade, cart full o' weeds, clematis and pansies, organic seed starting mix by the crateful, mystery alien plant, irises, pergola and windchimes, iris, blackberries, more irises, greenhouse, strawberry, plums, scottish broom, dianthus, heap of mulch (to do list), what's left of my beautiful rugosa rose, his and hers garden decor, basically a ramble around the yard. ;)

Iris

I answered an ad on Craigslist 2 summers ago, selling irises, daffodils, and a few other types of bulb/rhizome perennials - with prices "by the shovelful". When I showed up, it was an elderly couple who had just purchased a house, and they didn't want the upkeep of the large flower garden in the back yard, so they'd dug it all up and were getting rid of the plants. By the time I came along, they were hot, tired, and a little disappointed with how the flow of calls from their Craigslist ad had petered out and how few of those calls had actually turned into people showing up with cash in hand. They filled the whole bed of my truck up with these irises for $20 and a smile. I gave most of them away, and my husband piled some of them up in the garden cart and left them to rot when it filled with rainwater (hey, I could've gone and planted them too, and I didn't), but here are some of the ones that are left.
