Hydrangea

Cellphone is not so hot for macro photos, but in the foreground and out of focus is a hydrangea we located a month or so ago. It was up by the house, under the pussy willow, and not getting nearly enough sun. I was surprised to see it budding out already after the trauma of the move. In the background, and much better focused, is the mystery alien plant seen in the first photo here.

Hmm...

The top pond is the one that's usually completely full to overflowing, since it *does* overflow into the lower ponds. I turned off the pump yesterday, because we were losing water. When I went out today, it was the top pond that was considerably lower than usual, and the bottom pond was nearly full. Either someone sneaked into my yard and scooped water from the top pond to the bottom pond (bypassing the connecting basin in the middle which was also low) or the pump hoses behaved as siphons, to the tune of at least 20 gallons of water, even though they were turned off. Weird.

Weird Bug

He's a little hard to see, but you can click the photo for a bigger version, and click again to magnify that. He looks like a darker blade of grass, just below and between the two clover blossoms, approximately in the middle of the frame. The only reason I noticed him is because he made quite a flutter coming in for a landing.

OK, these aren't actually in bloom yet. In fact, they look like giant lettuce. Stay tuned for blooms in a month or two.

Unidentified

There are so many of these coming up, I hope they're "friend", but I have a feeling they're "foe". I'm leaving them for now to see what becomes of them. The only thing I can think they might be is coneflowers?

Yard Work

Tools of the trade, cart full o' weeds, clematis and pansies, organic seed starting mix by the crateful, mystery alien plant, irises, pergola and windchimes, iris, blackberries, more irises, greenhouse, strawberry, plums, scottish broom, dianthus, heap of mulch (to do list), what's left of my beautiful rugosa rose, his and hers garden decor, basically a ramble around the yard. ;)

Mystery alien plant, baby grapes, plum tree contemplating its imminent destruction at the hands of my husband because branches are drooping low enough to scratch the roof of his car, baby plums, clematis (mailbox), the plant I almost pull out as a weed every spring but always eventually spare, groundcover, and gratuitous clematis shot.
